We wish to reiterate that all pilots should check their side wires regularly, and in this case regularly means every time you fly. This is rehashing information previously published on this website and elsewhere, but it is important.

Moyes use high quality cast aluminium fittings on both the ZOOM upright ends and the ZOOM base bar ends. These fittings have been extensively tested and have proved to handle loads well in excess of that required from the normal operation of a hang glider. The parts have been in use since 2000 and have never failed in the course of normal operations.

Please be advised that the Litespeed and Litespeed S owners manuals have incorrectly stated the method for attaching the webbing to the outer leading edge. The error is described on page 9 or 10 of the respective manual under the section "Assembly from 4.5m Breakdown Form". The manual states that the sail webbing should be attached to the top of the leading edge. This is incorrect as the webbing actually needs to be attached to the bottom of the leading edge, as depicted in the related photo.

We have just had another report of a pilot flying with damaged side wires.
We published a Technical Advisory with some photos some time ago about this issue. Click Here.
The UK pilot had a reasonable short flight, but in some rough conditions to 10500 feet. After landing, he discovered that one of his side wires were badly damaged with all but three strands broken at the bottom of the control frame.
We must emphasis that the side wires must be replaced every year or 50 hours. The glider in question hadn't had them replaced for nearly two years.
Please check your side wires regularly and replace them as required.
